Deadpool is by far one of my personal favorite comedies. My best friend, Georgia and I found the film so incredibly hilarious, we splurged for RPX when seeing the sequel ( which I personally find to be even funnier) to laugh in comfort and style. Deadpool combines comedy and the classic superhero film like no other. Even originally as a comic Deadpool was quite out there in its bold, direct, and at times vulgar comedy style. A key thing in deadpool that sets it apart from other action comedy films is the breakdown of the fourth wall. Deadpool will often turn in the middle of scene and speak directly to the camera reflecting on or explaining his actions. This conversation with the audience allows the character to develop more of relationship with the viewer, and the viewer to feel as though they better understand Deadpool.
The situations and supporting characters in these films are often times very comedic, but the real star is Deadpool himself, as he is incredible direct and sarcastic. Often time Deadpool’s comments are inappropriate or offensive. Often his actions and comments are a prime example of benign violation. As they could be harmful or taken the wrong way it is never so bad one could actually be hurt by such, and that is what allows to be so funny. The edge of these comments and the bit of shock factor too then adds to their comic effect. This also plays into incongruity theory as many of the comments made or situations occurring are odd and out of the blue. A lot of what is occurring doesn’t quite add up in this film, but we laugh anyway. Moments that are even meant to be more emotional are still doused with humor as Deadpool never knows quite the right thing to say. All in all this film is no doubt hilarious and worth the watch.
