The Good Place
I have been a fan of The Good Place since it first aired a few years back. This sitcom does an excellent job of having comical character who balance each other in the perfect way. The main character, Eleanor is wrongly placed in the good place, due to amix up in her true identity..Eleanor’s life on earth was a tad of a problematic one, and very much has a sarcastic and comical edge. Eleanor often just says things that make the audience do a double take as in the scene Abby discussed. Despite being the troubled one of the group, Eleanor is a problem solver and actually quite smart. Eleanor’s “soulmate” in the good place is Chidi. Chidi is a man of extremely high morals and ethics; he is constantly debating upon what is the right thing to do, which contrasts Eleanor as she will do whatever it takes to keep herself out of trouble. This contrast often results in many arguments between Chidi and Eleanor,as they decide what to do next to avoid Eleanor being caught. There is also Jason who is funny due to his sometimes plain stupidity, and just being a little unaware of what's going on. Jason’s soulmate is Tahani, a snotty eriess, but he ends up falling in love with Janet, who is actually just a robot created to answer any questions they may have. This show contains much incongruity humor, such as man falling in love with a robot, and also an episode where flying shrimp take over and destroy what is supposed to be paradise. The show is filled with not only these outlandish issues, but the entire concept of the show and its spin on mortality is part if its comical genius. Everyone has some idea of the concept of heaven and hell, this show takes that serious notion and puts a very funny spin on it. It makes it much more light hearted while still posing questions about mortality, and what it means to be a good person.
I liked how you commented on the show as a whole and how the essence of it is even very comical, not just the specific scenes.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your favorite character interactions? There's so many fun little details and aspects. Now that I think about it, it reminds me sort of like an upbeat episode of Black Mirror.
